Portia Wu serves as the Secretary of Labor for the State of Maryland. The Maryland Department of Labor (MD Labor) connects Marylanders to good jobs; protects workers, consumers, and the public; supports Maryland businesses; and fosters economic growth and competitiveness.

Secretary Wu has spent her career developing and implementing policies that benefit America’s workers. Prior to joining the Moore-Miller Administration she served as Managing Director of U.S. Public Policy at Microsoft, where she focused on the future of work and training needs in emerging fields like cybersecurity and sustainability. Before that she served as Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training at the U.S. Department of Labor, where she oversaw the implementation of the 2015 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. And she has held numerous other roles in public policy including Special Assistant for Workforce Policy under President Barack Obama and Labor Counsel to the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy.
